Bogforingsloven
The Danish Bookkeeping Act (Bogforingsloven) sets requirements for digital record keeping, e-invoicing, and data retention. Sitenyx is designed to meet all requirements of the act.
About the Danish Bookkeeping Act
The modernized Bogforingsloven requires Danish businesses to use digital bookkeeping systems that meet specific standards for record keeping, security, and data exchange. The act is administered by Erhvervsstyrelsen (Danish Business Authority) and applies to all businesses required to prepare annual reports, with phased deadlines extending to 2026.
Compliance deadlines
The act has been rolled out in phases to give businesses time to adapt:
- July 1, 2024 Businesses using registered bookkeeping systems must keep digital records.
- January 1, 2025 All businesses required to prepare annual reports must keep digital records.
- January 1, 2026 Personally owned companies with turnover exceeding DKK 300,000 for two consecutive years must comply.
- July 2026 (est.) Custom-developed bookkeeping systems must meet all requirements.
System requirements
The Bogforingsloven mandates three core capabilities for digital bookkeeping systems:
- Digital record keeping Registration of all business transactions with digital attachments (receipts, invoices) and 5-year secure storage.
- E-invoicing Support for sending and receiving standardized e-invoices via OIOUBL and PEPPOL BIS Billing 3.0 formats.
- SAF-T export Ability to generate Standard Audit File for Tax (SAF-T) exports in OECD version 2 format for Skattestyrelsen.
- 5-year retention All bookkeeping records must be stored digitally and remain accessible for at least 5 years after the end of the fiscal year.
- EU backup storage Backup copies of bookkeeping data must be stored within the EU, ensuring compliance with both data residency and bookkeeping requirements.
E-invoicing standards
Sitenyx supports the Danish e-invoicing standards required by law. This includes OIOUBL (based on UBL 2.1) for domestic B2B and B2G invoicing, and PEPPOL BIS Billing 3.0 for cross-border EU invoicing. Invoices are exchanged through the NemHandel platform, Denmark's official e-invoicing network.
SAF-T export
The Standard Audit File for Tax (SAF-T) is a standardized XML format for reporting financial data to Skattestyrelsen. Sitenyx generates SAF-T exports covering the general ledger, VAT transactions, inventory, and fixed assets, in full compliance with the OECD SAF-T version 2 specification.
Secure data storage
All bookkeeping data is stored with AES-256 encryption, automatic backup within the EU, and comprehensive access controls. User management and audit logging ensure that all access to bookkeeping records is traceable, as required by the act. Data is retained for the full 5-year statutory period and cannot be altered or deleted during this time.
